Quiet Roamers

Our gear

What we carry on the trail and film it with. Everything here has been on at least one of our trips, with a line on how it did.

Links go to Amazon Germany (amazon.de). Most items deliver to Estonia; GoPro cameras currently do not.

Filming

Used on: Aegviidu – Napu

Sony a6700 body on a table

Sony Alpha 6700

Our main camera: every static shot in the Aegviidu – Napu film, recorded in S-Log3 and graded afterwards.

Tamron 17-70 mm f/2.8 lens standing on its mount cap

Tamron 17-70 mm f/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD (Sony E)

The one lens we use on the a6700, for everything from the forest to the bog.

GoPro HERO11 Black, scuffed from the trail

GoPro HERO11 Black

For the walking shots, where a bigger camera would get in the way.

Sony a6700 with the Tamron on the C-Rope Creatorpod

C-Rope Creatorpod tripod

One tripod between the two of us; it carried the a6700 for every static shot. The ball head takes the Peak Design plate, so the camera goes from the pack strap to the tripod without changing plates.

Sony ECM-W3: charging case, two transmitters with a windshield and the receiver

Sony ECM-W3

Sony's wireless set: two clip-on transmitters and a receiver that sits in the a6700's shoe with no cable. We clip a transmitter near the subject when the camera is far away, so the sound stays close even when the shot is wide.

Peak Design Capture clip with its plate

Peak Design Capture clip

Clipped to a pack strap, the a6700 hangs there all day and comes out in one motion when something is worth filming. Its Arca-type plate drops straight into the Creatorpod's head, so no plate swapping on the trail.

The deuter Aircontact Lite 50+10 on the forest trail, foam mat on top

deuter Aircontact Lite 50 + 10

Packing up

MCETO TX400 Ultra hot tent

Height-adjustable tipi, 4 m across and 2.2 m high, with a stove jack. Warm enough to sleep in light bags at −10 °C outside. Ours is MCETO's TX400 Ultra, which Amazon does not sell in Europe; the link is a similar flame-retardant tipi hot tent with a stove jack.

Splitting firewood

Stainless-steel tent stove

Ours is a near twin of this one: 304 stainless steel, glass door, air damper, fold-out side shelves and a telescopic chimney. What we would change: get one with an ash drawer.
